Blue Glove Open: Winter 2022-23, Week 1
It takes some digging to find the player of the week this time.
Despite the final's postponement by a week, William Green remained in form. He took home the Fall regular season championship in emphatic fashion against Yael Lan, 8-0. The two had amassed 11-0 and 9-1 records through the fall to set up a clash of titans outside the usual Group Finals, in what was a BGO first.
And yet it was perhaps Tomas Mulita who grabbed the most impressive victory, defeating Lan 8-4 to avenge many tight-as-possible fall losses to the regular season finalist. Lan had a knack for escapism, winning more 8-7 matches than anyone in BGO history.
But the Player of the Week emerged from the closest match. Lara Dabney is named Player of the Week for her 5-4 triumph in primetime against Kate Johnson in the match of the weekend.
The BGO welcomed Nicholas Kidd and Milly Johnson with Kidd earning his first win. Ted Wang, newly promoted to Group C, kicked off his campaign against another newcomer, Emma Choi, with an 8-3 win.
He shares the early Group C lead with Annecy Tran, who defeated Ethan Wang handily. Wang then went the distance with her sister, Allison Tran, with Allison winning 7-5.
