Fisher shines on festive weekend

Blue Glove Open: Week 5

Mack Fisher took down Group A's top seed at the turn of the new year, JT Mathura, in convincing fashion. With the 8-4 victory Fisher earns Player of the Week honors. He's now 2-0 in Group A since his promotion as Group B champion in the fall.

Shed no tears for Mathura, though. He avenged his loss the next evening by outlasting Martin Ridao in a match shortened to 3-2 following Ridao's retirement. Though Fisher is unbeatean, Mathura remains atop the group with four wins, while second- and third-place players William Green and Jeremy Chud were idle this weekend.

Elsewhere Tomas Mulita jumped to the front of BGO's second peloton. The newly minted Group B player is 3-4, but his wins are enough to place him ahead of Sonia Husain, who dispatched Olivia Hoffman 8-0 for her second win.

Mulita edged Miguel Zein 8-6 under Friday night lights in what competed with one other match as the festive weekend's most dramatic fixture. David Gong zoomed up the Group C rankings by virtue of his 8-6 win over Ilan Faraci, who still seeks his first win this winter only because of the top competition he's faced.
