Grossman edges Weiss in debut

Blue Glove Open: Winter 2022-23, Week 10

New players still join the league each week even as we near the home stretch of the winter season. Jack Grossman immediately surged up the Group A ranks with his debut win against Spencer Weiss, 8-6, in a close Saturday night match. The new kid on the block also earned Player of the Week honors with that performance.

Weiss did not lose ground in the title race though; in fact, he gained some by defeating Jake Snow 8-2 and closing the gap to Alvaro Orlove, who was idle this weekend after four matches the previous weekend. Weiss now sits two games behind Orlove. Both are in finals spots and are poised to meet in the championship unless David Gong and company can catch them.

Ted Wang was the sole other player to play a doubleheader. He went 1-1, losing to Sidney Immergut but defeating Emma Choi in their second meeting of the season. It went similarly to the first, 8-4 instead of 8-3, with Choi gaining one step.

Immergut, with that victory, moves up into the Group D lead just ahead of Lara Isler. Wang positions himself within one game of finals spot-holder Nicholas Kidd, with Jake Snow in between them as Elina Ipakchi has a stranglehold on first place.

Only a few weeks remain in winter until Decision Day and Championship Weekend with the division races heating up.
