The Road to THE TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP 2024
Le Tour winds its way toward a first-time final destination in Nice while The Tour enters a bit of a July break, winding up to the USTA 10U & 12U at month's end.
But our young stars never stop jostling for position in the peloton even as maillot jaune wearers Shiloh Auzoux, Atlee Hilliard, and Jon Ozenci keep their Pogacar-like stranglehold on the general classification.
A week removed from the last tournament, the rankings shuffled in three of the Tours. On the Senior Circuit Kevin Yan led the largest group of improved players, rising five places into the Top 50. Meanwhile Josephine Saxe entered the Top 20 just behind Evan Hogue and Katelyn Gray.
More tectonic movement was registered one step below, on the 16U Tour. That's where Richard Caddell swapped places with Likitha Gaddipati for No. 4 overall, and strong newcomer Ashvin Ellentuck reached his highest position to date at No. 8. Gabriel Gorbach climbed into the Top 10, but certainly not for the first time.
William Van Horne popped into the Top 10 again at 12U as the trio of him, Elijah Park, and Zain Beg improved one position.
Auzoux's lead there over Siena Auzoux remains at just 33 points. Ozenci's lead at 16U stands at 115 points, and Hilliard's reversal of fortune on the Senior Circuit puts her within striking distance at 44 points.
Paris will have changed from Tour excitement to Olympic fanfare by the staging of Tennis Central's next events. In the DMV it'll be Holton Arms on July 28 for the young tikes, while Princeton is set to welcome a triple header of weekends in August.
2024 Points Change
A change to the points applied to higher-level tournaments from lower levels should reflect ages and skills better from now on. It used to be that all points were halved when applied to a higher age group's rankings. Now, the points are halved each step up the ladder, not just once.
So a player can no longer earn 80 points at 10U and count them as 40 at 16U. They would be halved at 12U (40 points), again at 14U (20 points), then again at 16U (10 points). It provides the incentive without disrupting the older players' earnings too much.
However, a younger player earning points in an older tournament, much as Arnav Nadikatla did in this Tour Championship edition, is still a sure way to rise faster in those rankings.
Remember the newly added feature to the rankings: the Plus / Minus, which will tell you how far up or down the player has moved within the last week.
The full tables now look like this.
Each weekend this spring and summer, Tennis Central is bringing you USTA and UTR tournaments at Holton-Arms School. Earn points for advancing through each round, just like on the pro tours, and qualify for the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at season's end.
Bigger events offer more points, with the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP offering the most, as well as prizes.
